The Gurnard's Head

I have just returned from Sunday lunch at the Gurnards Head and feel really disappointed. My husband and I have eaten there a number of times over the years and also taken our family for celebrations etc. Our guests today were two family members who are vegan and their starters, main meals and desserts were very tasty and imaginative. However, my husband and I ordered the roast beef which was fine but not very warm. The roast potatoes, usually one of the best parts of a roast dinner, had obviously been standing on a warming plate all afternoon and the outsides were so hard we couldn’t cut into them – so had to leave them. It was five minutes into the meal before the creamed leek dish arrived and this was only just lukewarm. This was replaced with a piping hot one but we had been eating for a while before this arrived and, by that time, my husband did not want any of it. I ordered apple crumble for dessert but was brought chocolate ice cream. My daughter had to find a waitress to sort this out and it was then ten minutes before the crumble came. The others had finished their desserts before mine even arrived. When I was halfway through the crumble someone started to clean the floor behind us with an extremely pungent cleaner/disinfectant and I could not finish the crumble due to this terrible smell. So I paid the bill, including the service charge, and was glad to leave. At no time during this meal did a member of staff ask is if everything was all right, if we were enjoying our meals, or offer any apology for the problems with the food. I think they were all so rushed off their feet that they neither knew or cared.
