18 Restaurant at The Machrie Hotel

We used the restaurant for breakfast while staying at the hotel. Supposedly serves 7-10am, arrived at 9ish and was chaotic. THE worst coffee, absolutely atrocious (see photo), then wondered why there was a lot of demand for "proper" coffees? Worst of all (as someone with coeliac (gluten free)) was their attitude to allergens. Asked for the allergen menu (a legal requirement), told to scan the QR code on the menu. Doesn't work (takes you to a website of the same menu with the same QR code). Asked for a paper copy. Waited ten minutes and then the older lady who was out waitress tried to pressure me into ordering before I'd seen the allergen menu and confirmed what was safe for me to eat. Told they "couldn't find" the paper allergen menu, meaning they didn't have one available, despite this being a legal requirement. Had to go through each breakfast item individually to confirm it was GF. Got poached eggs on toast with beans. Obviously dreadful Schar gluten free bread, which they buy because it's longer dated, even though it's disgusting. Partner had the full Scottish, which did not match the standard of the hotel. No other gluten free options except fruit & yogurt.
