The Black Swan at Oldstead

Gastronomique!!! We only visited for lunch so cannot comment about the rooms. The restaurant itself is beautifully situated in the North Yorks countryside. The food was sublime and they are headed for 2 stars IMHO. We loved the ethos. It’s brave of them to limit themselves to their “terroir”, but it’s working, inspiring the chefs to create new, exciting dishes that you’re not going to get anywhere else. There were lots of highlights and interesting talking points throughout the meal. The service was 10/10. We participated in the soft drinks workshop beforehand, which was a delightful way to start the experience. The lady who presented the workshop was so passionate and enthusiastic. I would definitely recommend this. One of us had the soft drinks package and she thought it even better than one we had earlier in the year at a three star restaurant. Indeed, the service generally was faultless, being welcoming and friendly, but also telling the “story” of the place with great tact and charm. In short, superb all round.
