Root Wells

Went to Root in Wells for my mum's birthday dinner last night, and it was my second visit. I remember being highly impressed the first time, but wow – last night was on another level. Quite genuinely, it was a perfect meal. We chose the following dishes: • Smoked Sardines, Pickled Chillis, Herbs • Pitney Leaf Salad, Pea Hummus, Grilled Sugarsnaps, Homewood Feta • Grilled Hispi Cabbage, Caesar Dressing, Pickled Shallots, Croutons • Sweet and Sour Beetroot, Chew Valley Stracciatella, Herbs, Pumpkin Seeds • Cornish Mussels, Cider, Crème Fraîche, Spring Onions • SPECIAL: prawns Every single dish delivered an incredible balance of flavour. The food here manages to be both delicate and powerful at the same time, with each plate offering something completely different while remaining beautifully balanced. The quality of the ingredients shines through, and the creativity in the combinations is exceptional. The service was warm and attentive, the setting relaxed and welcoming, and the food simply outstanding. Root continues to be one of the very best dining experiences in Somerset. A truly memorable meal and somewhere I can't wait to return to.
