Ghan House

We had dinner at Ghan House on a Friday night. There was no problem getting a reservation online, and our table was nice with a view of the gardens. The dining room wasn't too busy. It's old fashioned silver service dining, and the room feels traditional too. This isn't a bad thing, but don't expect modern touches here. Service was good, attentive without being intrusive. The menu is good value fine dining, four courses for €65. And the wine was reasonably priced. I skipped the starter and had the duck breast main. It was okay, nothing to write home about. My dessert was Ube Cheesecake (i had to ask what that was and was intrigued enough to want to try a sweet potato dessert). Again, okay. Not amazing but perfectly nice. Hubby had the black pudding starter and thought it was tasty, and the seafood plate that was a small portion but everything was delicious. He had the chocolate tart with a pistachio macaron for dessert and again he though it was delicious. Everything was beautifully presented. Service was efficient, without feeling rushed. I'm not sure I'd rush back. The experience and the food were nice, but not amazing. I was underwhelmed. With a tip the meal came to over €200 and I think next time I'm in Carlingford I'll try one of the many other good restaurants.
