Calling in to Deanes Love Fish in Belfast, to try out the new lunchtime menu, was a delightful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Perched at a window seat to watch the world go by, the informal but stylish dining space is fresh and bright with hints of the seaside in the decor, perfectly mirroring the menu which champions the finest of local seafood and shellfish. We started with a carafe of zingy Chez Deaneo Sauvignon Blanc, crisp, fruity, and perfect to pair with fish. The snack of Crispy whitebait with curried mayo, and the Crab on Toast starter with celeriac, confit onion, and Granny Smith apple were both excellent appetisers. To follow, the generously portioned Fish Pie was crammed with local seafood, topped with a cheddar glazed mash, and served with buttered greens, and the dish of Scampi, arranged beautifully on the plate, was accompanied by chips, tartar sauce, house salad and a spritz of lemon.
