Average rating: 4.5
Stayed one night in transit from Ireland to the Cotswolds. Great call. We had no idea what to expect other than Ai rated the place highly, and once again, Ai was spot on. The room - Buff O - was compact but tastefully appointed, as was the bathroom. (The basin tap sprayed erratically though, hence minus one star). The tea room at the end of the hall was a lovely touch too. Then dinner, wow. In the beautiful dining room, watched over by a quirky portrait of QE II, the goats cheese entrée, Xmas dinner main, and apple crumble for pudding, all pointed to a well run and talented kitchen. The placid dog at the feet of its local master at the next table seemed to enjoy the ambience as well. The price was also crazy reasonable; after paying A$800/night for very ordinary accomodation in Ireland, at the FD, with a slap-up meal including a glass of Bolly, bottle of Chilean Pinot, and accommodation, plus an abundant cooked breakfast, the price for two was more than reasonable A$600 (£300) all up. The frost on Wednesday morning was for free. Not to mention the picture book thatched roof village in which the FD is nestled. Can't rave about it all enough. Actually, can rave a bit more owing to a shout out to the local staff who made our visit so elegantly simple. Nothing was a problem. All up, an unexpected pleasure on our short visit to the northern hemisphere this year.
