The Ferry House

Restaurant description
Foodies who love delicious, hyper local, homegrown menus served from a beautiful backdrop must have The Ferry House high on their dining wish list. This 16th century former inn is stunningly set waterside between two wetland bird reserves in a secluded corner of the Isle of Sheppey, and is dog friendly. Awarded a 2AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence and owned by a third generation local farming family since 2000, their dining ethos centres around home cultivation and what they can grow, farm and forage.
Diners are treated to that day's crop from the 1.5 acre Kitchen Garden, which yields over 150 varieties of fruits, vegetables and herbs, as well as high-welfare beef from their family farm, grass grazed locally on the salt marshes of the Elmley Nature Reserve. Wild game from the local Harty estate is a Ferry House favourite, as are foragables from the shoreline and hedgerows, alongside other quality Kent produce. On the drinks menu you'll find a wealth of Kentish beers, wines and spirits, including Copper Rivet artisan spirits, distilled using local Burden-grown grains, plus a generous mocktail and soft drink menu.
The result is a fresh and surprising, seasonal menu that is always evolving. Diners are introduced to produce which is new to them, exciting and creatively prepared, but presented in an approachable and un-pretentious manner, pairing unusual ingredients among others which are familiar.
The dining ambience is equally as enjoyable, with a warm, relaxed and rustic appeal. Outside a seated terrace draped with festoon lighting affords beautiful views over the water and gardens. Inside has all the rustic and relaxed hallmarks you'd expect of a 16th century country restaurant, with hops and antique vintage touches, as well as roaring fires during the colder months.
Choose from a selection of small, larger and sharing plates or pre-bookable dedicated vegan menu. There are also Sunday Roast, Children's and Breakfast Menus.
With 11 luxury rooms also available, you can elevate a dining visit to a relaxed country retreat to take in more of the beautiful landscape, local waterside walks and wonderful wildlife.

The Ferry House restaurant reviews

Average rating: 4.5
We celebrated our wedding this weekend at The Ferry House and just had the most amazing day in the most spectacular surroundings. The Inn itself is beautiful, large enough to cope comfortably with our 130 guests. The gardens were gorgeous and the view just beautiful. But that was just the start. From the moment we booked the Ferry House we have had fantastic communication with the weddings team. They were quick to reply to every query I had, gave us advice from their experience and calmed me when the anxiety hit hard a few days before our Wedding! On the day itself I felt like absolute royalty, the getting ready room was beautiful, the brunch platters perfectly pitched for our party and every time I turned around with a query or holding something I didn’t know what to do with, Maxine, Chloe or one of their team was there to deal with it.
The food was absolutely delicious and we had several compliments on the day from impressed guests. I was anxious about being in the limelight for the day but I leaned into it (!) and honestly had the most amazing day and that was largely down to the Ferry House, their incredible team, venue, professionalism and setting. Thank you so much for making our Wedding Day more than I ever expected.
