Restaurant Reviews and Social

Latest review:

Should have been 5 stars but to me having a good nights sleep is a major factor when choosing somewhere to stay and if you’re rest or sleep isn’t as good as at home then you may as well have stayed at home and saved £260 (that is my logic) However, if you’ve never been to Symonds Yat before then I would say it is somewhere to add to your bucket list of places in Britain to visit before you die! It’s my second visit, and chose the Saracens Head for the reviews I read, (not many negative ones) and rightly so because myself and my wife only had one negative point to make, but for us it was worth the mention and truly state that this review is intended to be constructive criticism, and will hopefully address an issue which will help future guests and in turn help the Saracens Head. It is never good to just make harsh comments about anything that could affect people’s livelihoods, especially for the hospitality trade at this moment in time as they need all the help right now, but this is was our experience. After booking two nights stop off as a surprise for my wife (her birthday and our anniversary)on our way to Cornwall (after a cancelled cruise) I’d booked a Superior King room, and the room was lovely with beautiful views overlooking the river, just perfect, UNTIL you sit or lie down on the bed (which I’m sure isn’t King sized as the room “may suggest, which isn’t a problem to us)? Once in bed, every move makes dreadful loud creaking noise which disturbed myself and woke my wife who is the most patient person in the world, and it was the same for both nights, the place was full so that was that, but the lack of sleep was dreadful as the place is so peaceful and quiet at night in fact a proper silence except for this bed and it is a major problem. I wish I’d have mentioned it on arrival, however I didn’t and don’t know what they could have done but when checking out I did mention it and the answer I got was, “yes we’ve had a few people say that” well I’m sorry but I’m sure they just aren’t understanding that their guests are not getting a decent nights sleep that they’ve paid hundreds of pounds for?? We never ate at the hotel as I’d booked meals elsewhere for the visit but good points: Location, staff friendly, breakfast fantastic, free parking, room size, social distancing protocol Other bad points: none Finally it was a shame we didn’t rest because of a bed after paying for this lovely room, but when the hotel know a problem exists they should prioritise or at least consider the effect it may have on guests experience. The Saracens Head is a great place but if you are given the key to ROOM 3 TEST THE BED BEFORE ACCEPTING THE ROOM! We would definitely stay again too.
