Plates London restaurant reviews

Average rating: 4.8
The food was absolutely divine! There were some flavours I was initially unsure about—such as tarragon and spirulina—but the team managed not only to weave them effortlessly into the dishes, but to let them shine in their own right. The combination of jersey potatoes, miso, seaweed, and Australian black truffles was a clear standout: all my favourite flavours brought together with the most irresistibly moreish textures. Quite honestly, the best potatoes I have ever eaten.
As someone with a soft spot for anything sweet, the pre-dessert and dessert did not disappoint. It was bold to present something frozen for both courses, but I’m an unapologetic ice-cream devotee—though calling the finale “ice cream” feels almost insulting. It was an icy miracle.
One small disappointment was the service. As someone who isn’t a big drinker (alcoholic or non-alcoholic), I would have appreciated being informed about the pairing options before being default served a drink with every course and then charged a substantial amount at the end. I did ask how the pairings worked, but was never given the option to opt out and simply choose one or two drinks from the menu—something I would have preferred, especially so I could enjoy dessert on its own.
