Nutbourne restaurant reviews

Average rating: 4.3
Pleasant location (waterside terrace adjacent to a former warehouse dock with a cheery barge) or under an open-sided marquee by the bar or inside. The cocktails and mocktails were excellent. The food is acceptable, but not worth a detour. The cost, for what you get, is high. We had one alcoholic drink, plain water and a spicy Virgin Mary, with simple starters and mains, one of us is vegetarian, (cooking style is "bucolic brasserie" so presentation is not fancy but ingredients are fresh). There were three of us and the bill came to over £160. I enjoyed the baked cheese as a starter- enormous portion for 1, so we shared it. The scallops were the highlight of the meal, but, compared to the baked cheese, the portion was minute. The crab thermidor was slightly chewy due to being over cooked. Salad was nothing special and vegetarian options were quite limited. Service was friendly but slow - probably due to having to cope with COVID-19 restrictions.
