Unfortunately Chez Roux fell short in my eyes. We booked a table of six to celebrate a 70th birthday but while the setting was beautiful and in most cases the food tasted delicious, the temperature of the food and the service proved to be an issue taking the shine off what should have been a lovely evening. In every course, dishes that should have been hot arrived lukewarm or stone cold rather than at room temperature. There were long breaks between courses, an accompaniment to a starter arrived as the person finished the dish and Mai Tai that arrived looked and tasted suspiciously like a mojito. On clearing the table, the wait staff managed to drop left over food on the head of one of our party. I appreciate accidents happen but this member of staff didn't notice they'd done it nor did they apologise. As a gesture of goodwill the staff did remove some items from the bill, but we had to argue over the £300 deposit we paid to secure a table for 6. On first politely raising with the staff that deposit was missing, rather than saying I will check, we were simply told "you didn't pay a deposit". The prices are on a par with a Michelin-starred restaurant we recently visited but sadly the overall experience at Chez Roux can't compete leaving us feeling disappointed.
