The Restaurant at The Roxburghe Hotel

Sunlaws in the Schloss Roxbury Hotel create dishes made using from their 300 acre estate with mushrooms and vegetables from their garden. Their honey is also from their own bees. The 9 course tasting menu is priced at £110 per person and this is the only menu available. We started off with 3 beautifully plated and creative welcome canapés. The following is the tasting menu. Breaking bread. Wagyu fat house brioche with miso butter. Gilt head bream with toasted almond, kaffir lime and almond milk dressing. This tasted amazing and refreshing Hand dived Orkney scallop with heritage tomatoes, vadoucan and tomato butter sauce. We enjoyed this dish too. Roasted veal sweetbread with onions and Madeira sauce. My first sweetbread and I liked it. Roasted wild bass with asparagus and jus gras. I love the asparagus and the fish was nicely done. Loins of lamb with carrots, lamb sausage in salsa verde. I find the lamb sausage too strong for my taste. The lamb loin is good but by this time I’m already too full to finish this dish. Strawberries and cream Honey toast and tea. This is excellent. To finish off we had a trio whiskey infused petit fours - Bon bon, Glenmorangie sours jelly, Ardbeg tablet. We had a lot of food from the tasting menu and the portion is generous. Service was a bit slow and dinner unnecessarily dragged for 2.5 hours. Initially everything was well paced. But when it came to the main dishes, service was dragged. By the time we were having desserts, I was already sleepy.
