The Jackdaw restaurant reviews

Average rating: 4.8
This is a personal opinion and does not reflect the views of others or the overall reputation of the restaurant.
We recently dined here for the Spring 2026 tasting menu (£125 per person, excluding drinks), and while there were some positive aspects, the overall experience did not meet expectations at this price point.
Food-wise, I recognise that part of the issue may come down to personal preference. However, beyond that, there were clear inconsistencies in execution. Some dishes were noticeably over-seasoned, while others lacked salt entirely, which disrupted the balance you would expect in a tasting menu of this level. From the menu, I particularly enjoyed courses 1, 4, 7, 9, and 11, but the remaining dishes did not work for me.
The atmosphere was generally pleasant, and I appreciated that the staff quickly addressed the initially loud music without needing to be prompted. Service in that regard was attentive. That said, the physical space itself felt underwhelming. There were visible signs of damp on the walls, the heaters were visually intrusive, and the overall décor lacked cohesion. The tables felt too simple for the setting, and the chairs, despite having sheepskin covers, were not especially comfortable and didn’t align with the aesthetic. Interestingly, the bathroom appeared better designed and more thoughtfully put together than the main dining area.
Unfortunately, I also experienced discomfort throughout the evening, which further impacted the experience.
Considering the price point, I expected a higher level of consistency in the food and a more refined and cohesive environment. While there are elements of potential here, the overall experience did not justify the cost for us.
