Amazing dinner, night and breakfast at The Angel. We loved our garden room, the dinner was superb, the breakfast was superb (very novel experience with the mini tasting menu breakfast). We could charge our car which was a lovely surprise too! Had been before, had loved it, so coming back to this magical little corner of Yorkshire was a no brainer. You know you are somewhere special the moment you arrive. The decor is lovely, clean and modern but with texture and natural details throughout. The food is original and outstanding. The staff are friendly and informed. What could they do better? More lighting for getting back to room at night, slippers in the bedroom, and, a cocktail menu would be a nice extra too.

Nonetheless, despite those difficult times, the last year or so has brought a triumphant amount of guide recognition for this long established stalwart of the Northern dining scene; as well as a precious Michelin star (as I predicted after my previous visit), the AA bestowed an impressive four rosettes too. I was therefore fully expectant of an excellent meal as I ventured back for a socially-distanced lunch with my wife and two young children on a gloriously sunny August Thursday....
