Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall

A really nice meal made special by incredible service. First time at Grantley Hall. Have followed Shaun Rankin and wanted to try his food for a long time. The restaurant is really fancy in an amazing building. On entering it feels more like a 2 or 3 star restaurant, and from the initial contact to the service throughout, this is how it felt. The food, while really good, didn’t quite match up to the service in our eyes. We’ve been to a few Michelin starred places (1-3 stars) and the service here was up there with the best. Some of the courses were amazing. The oyster dish,and the signature bread dish with beef tea were spectacular. As was the pumpkin magnum. Delicious. Some of the food felt a bit under seasoned or lacked as much punch in flavour as hoped. A crack of salt might have helped every dish. Like the scallop dish (sauce was a bit flat), the cruffin and tunworth was bland to be honest. Couldn’t taste the truffle. The sweetbread dish was a bit gristly. Just overall the food didn’t hit the heights we expected, but the service was incredible. Oh and we went to Valerie’s bar after. Very strange. Felt like we were in a 1980s Miami strip club haha
