Mansion House Hotel

Unfortunately, more appearance than reality. In advertising images and in person it looks beautiful from the outside and from a distance. Approach via a rough road that does not correspond to the property. Large parking lot, nice lawn. But the entrance has a worn-out carpet. Stairs to the rooms were also very worn. Room ok, clean and quite large. Receptionist and breakfast server in one person (plus an additional employee). Breakfast ok. The staff is friendly, but you will miss the personal touch here. OK as a stopover and for exploring the region, but not for longer. We stayed there for two nights, that was enough. Apparently there used to be a restaurant here, but it no longer exists. You can see that the owners only invest the bare minimum in the building and that is a shame for such a beautiful old house. Elgin as a city is probably long past its best. Overall, the mostly very good reviews are difficult to understand but perhaps we are being too picky.
