Julie's Kopitiam restaurant reviews

Average rating: 4.5
Let's start with the Nasi Goreng: Salty, very oily and had just enough flavour to be borderline authentic. Then there's the Sichuan mince pork: had some flavour but it was absolutely DRENCHED in oil it was overflowing out of the take out box. Then there's the smashed cucumbers: not pickled, not spicy, incredibly bland, and my friend who ate it said 'they'd rather eat a whole, raw cucumber' than eat this again. Then there's the Nonya style chicken curry: Literally soup, not even curry. No Nonya flavours at all, too oily but had enough flavour for me to somewhat enjoy it with rice. (The plain jasmine rice was the best thing we ordered). Then there's the Mango sticky rice: As you can see from the photo, it had no mangoes, wasn't even sticky, literally just jasmine rice packed tightly and drenched in the juices from a tin of canned mango. Then, the worst dish I've ever eaten in my life, the Mee Goreng: Not even the correct noodles, stupidly salty, no flavour at all, shrimps were microscopic, vegetables were non existent. Completely inedible, I would expect any random Chinese takeout to produce better food than this. As a Malaysian, I read about this place and thought 'Finally! Authentic Malaysian food on Michelin Guide! This has got to be delicious!' I saw photos and I instantly felt homesick and craved food from my home country. After this, I can honestly say I've never been more disappointed in my life. Absolute disgrace to Malaysian and Southeast Asian culture. Did I mention it was overpriced too?
