Crooked Beam Restaurant restaurant reviews

Average rating: 3.5
we went to the crooked beams restaurant for a sunday lunch 16/10/11 after a friends wedding on the saturday. I will never be frequenting again after the service our group of nearly 30 people received. We booked weeks before the meal, paid a deposit of £5-00 per person in advance, and on arrival were told that there weren't enough seats for us all, and we'd have to sit seperately and at different times. We were then chastised that we dared to enter the premises with children without notifying the management god forbid (had the other children present when we arrived been ok'd then?). Then, when the food arrived we were given one veg plate between 6 when other tables had been given upto one veg plate between two people. On requesting more we were told that “you have had your allowance!”. Then when the restaurant ran out of beef a few of our party opted for the pork but were rather forcefully informed that the crooked beam DOES NOT serve yorkshire puds with pork – it felt like how dare we ask, not that the restaurant shouldn't of run out of beef in the first place! It has to be said the food was good, but i feel for the chef. One part of the experience being good doesn't make for a good experience and we will not be passing through these doors again, we couldn't wait to escape to a friendly pub to continue where the plan had been to stay at the old beams for drinks as well – you have been warned Two stars rather than one as the food was good. This restaurant obviously thinks it is something special with its a la carte menu. A la carte isn't just food though, when you pay for a la carte food, exceptional service should be the order of the day. I get treated better down the greasy egg round the corner and eat as good food (imo) for a fraction of the price!
