The Angel at Watlington

We visited this restaurant on a Friday night, hoping for a memorable meal, but left thoroughly disappointed. The Lobster Thermidor was, without exaggeration, the worst we’ve ever had – it tasted overwhelmingly of mustard and nothing else. Service was poor too - our server kept complaining she was the only one working, which, on a busy Friday night, is simply unacceptable. When asked about our meal, we shared our concerns about the lobster. The server checked with the chef, who did apologize, but his response felt like an excuse – he explained how many spoons of mustard he used, as if that justified ruining a classic dish. As a gesture, they removed one of the children’s meals from the bill, but not a single one of the three ruined lobster dishes. This felt like a token gesture rather than a genuine attempt to make things right. To be fair, the steak we ordered was actually quite good, but, unfortunately, there was only one left. For a restaurant of this supposed calibre, running out of staple menu items is another letdown. Finally, it's massively overpriced for what it is.
