Restaurant Reviews and Social

Latest review:

The food was excellent, the service was unbeatable, both in the restaurant and on the patio and the lounges. Absence of room servicing did not detract in the least; in some ways we even preferred it! The staff on Reception were helpful and well-informed. The ambience of public spaces was exactly what we hoped for in selecting this particular hotel. There were a few niggles: in Regatta the bath is tucked away under a sloping ceiling and has taps and plug at opposite ends which restricts the way it is used, and one handle was broken. Also in the bathroom, the handbasin was cracked and the plug did not fit well enough to keep the water in. In the bedroom, an extra easy chair would have been appreciated, perhaps instead of the sofa; the light level was far too low to be able to read in comfort after sunset. The sash cords on the windows were cut out so the bottom sash had to be propped up with a chock of wood. With the weather as kind as it was during our stay, that was just about right but it would have been a different story if we had wanted some but less fresh air. Our biggest disappointment was in the pricing. We paid the agreed B&B cost at the start of our stay as expected, and I had booked dinner in the restaurant for the two of us for four of our five nights.`We chose from the menu on each of the four nights, noticing the charges stated against some but not all of the items, but I assumed that was for people visiting the restaurant as non-residents. Hence it was a very nasty surprise to find at the end of our stay that the meals all exceeded the £38.00 pppn stated on the website, and to rub salt into it, a 12.5% service charge on top. You presumably pay the staff an adequate wage and reflect that in the cost of the rooms and/or the meals so I cannot understand why there is a service charge added, automatically. It made for an awkward situation at the time of our departure when both we and yourselves would much prefer to part on good terms.
